About The Photographer

אמנון כפיר

Amnon Kfir is a distinctive type of photographer - a self-taught artist who through the eye of his camera, carries you to the soul of his topic. India is his chosen venue of creativity.
In 1997 Amnon journeyed with his 15 year-old-son Idan, to the Far East for the first time. His purpose - to explore India. A passage through song, smell, color and most importantly the beliefs of the Indian people themselves.

Thus began Amnon’s romance with India, where he discovered that his skill with the camera reflects the excitement and mysticism of the country. The whole kaleidoscope of human landscape can be found in the interaction of his subject matter, whether it be, religion, folklore, local festivals and customs or the more elaborate celebration of rites.

By the year 2000 Amnon was again drawn to India, this time to meet and photograph the lesser-known areas of this beautiful country. He reached the tribes of the more jungle-like areas of eastern India and then continued on to southern areas, capturing the daily life of the farming and fishing villages, places tourists very rarely see.

The focal point of his photographs takes you not only to the geographical aspects but also on to the deeper meaning of the relationship between people and their natural surroundings that appear within his pictures.

This is immediately apparent whenever you see one of Amnon Kfir’s creations and are transported through it to the ntinuous day-to-day demonstration of peoples’ lives.

Due to his individual affinity with India, often seen in numerous publications, photos and accompanying articles about India, Amnon was specially invited to visit in January 2001 by the Indian Government’s Tourist Office.

Their express wish was that he photograph the world’s largest one-month celebration of the “Festival Kumbh-Mela”. This event is held in the Northern Indian town of Allahabad, which absorbs over 100 million pilgrims during these festivities.

Amnon Kfir is an internationally recognized photographer and has contributed to travel and geographical magazines, photographic libraries, daily newspapers and periodical photo magazines. He is well known for his participation in international and national photographic exhibitions and competitions.
