Alma Outreach Program aims to incorporate the academic world
and the urban community in which it is located. As a cultural center,
Alma not only studies culture, but actively participates in its very
creation. Alma's Outreach Program promotes the active dialogue
between scholars, students and artists of different communities and
different fields of cultural activity. Courses, workshops, lectures
and
special events take place throughout the year offering a variety of
cultural enrichment programs. No formal academic background is
required.
Fridays at Alma
Once every three Fridays, Alma hosts an open morning session
during which current cultural, political and social issues are
discussed. A panel of two or three guest lecturers present different
viewpoints on specific questions and the subject is then opened to
public debate.
The Open Bet Midrash
The purpose of the Bet Midrash is to develop participants' skills in
textual analysis and interpretation. Jewish and non-Jewish source
texts are studied in small groups - similar to the yeshiva "havrutot"
-
under the guidance of Alma facilitators.
Courses and Workshops

aimed primarily at foreign visitors to Israel. They include lectures
and group discussions with the participation of Alma staff members.
The workshops can be adapted to the needs and schedules of
specific groups.
Culture on the Web
The project involves three separate study groups in Tel Aviv, in the
Upper Galillee and in San Francisco. Each group meets during eight
sessions for text-based study and discussion of issues relating to
Jewish identity and nationality. Members are linked into "havrutot"
via the Internet and by video-conference and are guided by
Facilitators.Themes are selected annually.
The Jewish Life-Cycle Center
Alma offers workshops that provide information and guidance to
individuals and families who wish to explore the meaning of specific
events in the Jewish life cycle, such as Jewish Wedding; Bar/Bat
Mitzvah; Mourning, etc.
Alma will publish a catalogue on Jewish life cycle events to
be distributed to participants at workshops and marketed to
the general public.
Special Events

specific questions aimed at specific audiences.
The Israel Calendar
