103-Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra
Lorin Maazel conducts the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra (USA). Program: Ben Shabtai - "Magrefa" (world premiere), Sibelius - Symphony no. 2; Mendelssohn - Symphony no. 4 , at the Convention Center.
104-Gala Concert of Psalms
Zubin Mehta leads the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra and choir in a gala concert at the Hassenfeld Open Air Theater in a program of vocal works that sets King David's Psalms into music: Vivaldi - Beatus Vir; Mozart - Laudate Dominum; Bernstein - Chichester Psalms; Gounod - Laudate Dominum; Bruckner - Psalm 150; spirituals and a new work by Lalo Schifrin. Among the soloists: Cecilia Gasdia, Denyce Graves, Ruggiero Raimondi.
107-Nabucco
Verdi's grand opera is presented at the Hassenfeld Open Air Theater in the lavish production of the Arena di Verona (Italy) . Conductor: Maurizio Arena; Director: Gianfranco de Bosio; Sets: Rinaldo Olivieri. Among the soloists: Renato Bruson, Ruggiero Raimondi, Monica Pick-Hieronimi, Mariana Anghelova, Luca Canonici, Gilberto Maffezzoni, Carlo Striuli, Donato Di Stefano, Susanna Anselmi, Anna Schiatti.
109-A Song for Jerusalem
A special concert for which new musical arrangements for the best loved classical songs written about Jerusalem, were commissioned. The concert will be performed by the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, IBA, soloists and choirs at the Jerusalem Theater.
110-King David's Violin
Zubin Mehta and the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra host the world's greatest violinists in a special homage to King David the musician. Soloists: Itzhak Perlman, Pinchas Zuckerman, Shlomo Mintz, Gil Shaham and Midori, at the Convention Center.
111-Gala des Etoiles
Leading ballet dancers from different companies around the world in a unique gala evening, as part of the Canada Week in Jerusalem, at the Convention Center.
112-Mahler's Eighth Symphony
This rarely performed 'Symphony of a Thousand' presented by the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Zubin Mehta. Soloists: Deborah Voigt, Jane Eaglen, Denyce Graves, Jard Van Nes, Vinson Cole, Hakan Hagegard, at the Convention Center.
113-Chicago Symphony Orchestra
Daniel Barenboim conducts the Chicago Symphony Orchestra (USA) in three special concerts honoring Jerusalem 3000. Program to be announced.
115-Concert of Praise to Jerusalem
The Israel Andalusian Orchestra conducted by Dr. Avi Eilam in a special concert dedicated to traditional oriental chants and hymns of praise to the Holy City, at the Jerusalem Theatre .
116-The Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, IBA
A festive concert directed by David Shalon including: Wiesenberg - "In Honor of 3000" (World Premiere), Rachmaninov - Piano Concerto no . 3 , Beethoven - Symphony no. 3 , at the Jerusalem Theater.
SPECIAL EVENTS
205-King David's Feast
Dine like a real king in this sumptuous twelve course royal banquet prepared by the world's fifteen finest chefs . This once in a lifetime kosher feast will be accompanied by a rich artistic program, at the Convention Center.
206-A Thousand Voices Sing to Jerusalem
A thousand voices strong choir from the Netherlands, organized by the Christenen voor Israel, in a special free open air concert at the Safra City Hall Square. The choir is accompanied by the Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, IBA and joined by Cantor Asher Hainovicz.
207-Celebration of Gospel Music
Gospel choirs and music groups from all over the world perform the best of gospel music in historic venues around Jerusalem with the participation of gospel recording artists Larnelle Harris, Twila Paris, Sandi Patty, Steve Green, Wayne Watson, the Brooklyn Tabernacle Singers and conductor Ralph Carmichael. Organized by Worldwide Leadership Council and the Gospel Music Association of Nashville, Tennessee (USA).
208-Floral Art from Holland
Tens of thousands of bulbs will be planted by experts from the Netherlands in the Jerusalem Botanical Garden. When blossoming in March 1996 , they will reveal a huge magnificent floral display. Courtesy of Israel Comite Nederland in cooperation with Keukenhof and the Jerusalem Botanical Garden .
209-Mizmor Le'Ir David
Hundreds of professional cantors gather in Jerusalem, performing the glorious musical liturgy in concerts taking place over a period of ten days in synagogues, concert halls, community centers and other venues throughout the city. Organized by the Cantors Assembly of America.
210-Sing O'Jerusalem
A special Zimriya for Jewish choirs from all over the world will be held in Jerusalem in various venues.
211-Above my Chief Joy
The North American Jewish Choral Festival, sponsored by The Zamir Choral Foundation will feature Choral Concerts dedicated to Jerusalem in various locations.
EXHIBITIONS
301-King Solomon's Seal
The legend of Khatam Sulayman (King Solomon's Seal) is common to Judaism, Christianity and Islam. This magical emblem gave the King his legendary command over the powers of nature. The exhibition at the Tower of David Museum looks at the contribution of Islam to Western Culture sciences and art as displayed through this symbol.
302-Jerusalem, A Capital for All Times
King David's Jerusalem compared with seven other capital cities of the ancient world such as Memphis , Ur, Nineveh and Babylon. Each city will be portrayed at the height of its glory, with the emphasis on military, commercial and religious aspects . The exhibition will be presented at the Bible Lands Museum .
303-Children of the World Draw Jerusalem An international drawing competition for children aged seven to fourteen, produced a colorful exhibition of some 400 paintings, at the Israel Museum. 304-Judaica 3000 The largest exhibition and fair of Judaic art with the participation of artisans , antiquarians , designers , collectors , experts and Judaica craftsmen . The fair includes an international competition for the design of Judaica items inspired by Jerusalem and King David, at the Convention Center. 307-Jerusalem 3000 Photography Project Twelve world renowned and Israeli master photographers have contributed thej works documenting the City. Exhibition of their works , organized by the Jerusalem School of Photography, will be presented at ~e Tower of David Museum . SPECIAL CONFERENCES 402-Pilgrimages to Jerusalem Through the Ages An international workshop and conference organized by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem and the Yad Ben Zvi Institute. The Orchestra, comprising about a hundred gifted young musicians , gathers in Jerusalem for masterclasses , rehearsals and concerts. Musical consultant: Lorin Maazel. 502-Liturgica Festival of Sacred Music The Jerusalem Symphony Orchestra, IBA performs sacred choral masterpieces with the participation of some of the leading world singers , conductors and choirs . The festival will also include concerts of traditional Jewish , Christian and Muslim music, in various venues. 503-Israel Festival, Jerusalem Israel's major artistic festival will showcase an exciting program of music , theater and dance. Among the participants: 504-Philharmonia Orchestra conducted by Gennadi Rozhdestvensky (25 .5) , South Africa's Handspring Puppet Company, "Medea" in Japanese by Ninagawa Theater Company (11-12.6), "Decodex" by Companie Philippe Decofle ( 14- 15 .6) , Ultima Vez - works by Wim Vandekeybus (27-29.5), Both Tokyo (14-15.6) and Emerson (8.6, 10.6) String Quartets, The Chamber Music Sosciety of Lincoln Center (25-26.5), Violinist Thomas Zehetmair (6-8.6), Baritone Wolfgang Holzmair (3 1 .5 , 1 .6) , Paul Motian Trio with Bill Frissel and Joe Lovano (25.5), Gabrieli Consort (2-3.6), Deutches National Theater Weimar (2-3.6), "Hibrid" by Semola Theater (25-26.5) and much more. 504-Jerusalem Film Festival The festival regularly hosts some of the leading international actors and directors and is a showcase for screening new and original Israeli films. 505-Jerusalem Courtyards Various picturesque courtyards , squares and enchanted corners in the center of the city host an array of theater performances , classical music,,jazz, stand-up comedy and much more. 506-Phenomena Festival The Jerusalem International Phenomena Festival will present a varied program of performance, puppet and visual theatre. 508-International Arts and Crafts Fair An impressive fair of arts and crafts taking place in a picturesque setting by King David's Tower with hundreds of craftsmen and traditional artisans from around the world presenting their craft in a colorful display. COORDINATED EVENTS 602-Jerusalem 3000 Tennis Cup An international tennis youth tournament will be held in Jerusalem and will attract aspiring sportsmen from all over the world . 603-The Jerusalem Marathon The traditional marathon , with the participation of thousands of runners , will cross the capital in a colorful display . 605-The International Jerusalem Quiz Youth from Israel and abroad will participate in a special quiz dedicated to Jerusalem 3000 . 607-The Jerusalem Relay Race 3000 runners in 40 teams will participate in a relay race covering 15 stations all around the Capital. 608-International Dance Parade Thousands of dancers will dance through Jerusalem's main streets celebrating its 3000th anniversary. 609-A Spectacular Concert of Illumination The Grand Premiere illumination of Jerusalem historic walls by the artist Rolland Jeol will be celebrated in a concert performed by 1000 musicians , choir members and soloists , at the foot of the city walls, under the patronage of Keren- Or-France .
